An optical magnetometer toward measurements of low current magnitudes for high voltage power transmission applications

Abstract

We present a magnetometer, based on the Zeeman effect, developed to measure magnetic fields generated by currents leaking through the insulation layer of High-Voltage Direct Current cables. This electrically non-invasive measurement could help assess the insulation evolution, thereby delivering insight into the integrity of power transmission.
