Method for DC reactor and DC circuit breaker design in HVDC grids
Abstract
The ambition of the Network DC project is to prepare for the implementation of DC circuit breakers (DCCB) in Multi-Terminal Multi-Vendor High Voltage Direct Current (MTMV-HVDC) networks. The protection design chosen for the project is achieved through a DC Switching Station (DCSS) with DCCBs. During fault neutralization, DC reactors (DCR) are necessary to prevent converter blocking in the unaffected parts of the network. This paper proposes a method for the sizing of the DCCBs and the associated DCRs using electromagnetic transient simulation.
