[VIDEO] SuperGrid Institute demonstrated
the partial discharge behaviour of SF6 substitute gases
which can be used in future HVDC GIS

At SuperGrid Institute we have been studying the partial discharge characteristics observed within different gases on our dedicated test platform, as part of Work Package 15 of the European PROMOTioN project.

The aim was to evaluate the effect of SF6 alternative gases on the partial discharge characteristics and study the effectiveness of different monitoring systems. This research was carried out with a view to developing more eco-friendly, SF6-free, Direct Current Gas Insulated Switchgear (DC GIS).

Find out more about this compelling project by watching the video that concluded our participation in the PROMOTioN project in early September!

Once again, we would like to take the opportunity to thank our project partners and WP15 group leader Uwe Riechert, Senior Principle Engineer, Hitachi ABB Power Grids, Switzerland.
