Impact of environmental conditions on interface reliability in power transmission systems: investigating tools for performance evaluation

This paper investigates the reliability of epoxy–silicone interfaces in high-voltage cable accessories under realistic operating conditions. A dedicated specimen with embedded electrodes was developed to replicate and measure interface properties, using dielectric spectroscopy, and partial discharge measurements. The evolution of the dielectric properties under humid conditions have been observed for two different system configurations. The influence of humidity on such critical area highlights the need for improving interface characterization to improve durability and reliability in HVAC and HVDC systems.
