Influence of MMC control philosophies on Multi-Terminal HVDC Design and Expandability
Abstract
Design of multi-terminal HVDC (MTDC) grids is widely investigated in academia and industry. During the joint North Sea Wind Power Hub (NSWPH) project, the hubs-and-spokes concept has become established and accepted. However, the methodology for the design of MTDC grids’ control and protection is still under investigation. In this paper, the influence of different control philosophies for Modular Multi-level Converters (MMC) on the design of MTDC grids’ control and protection is investigated and discussed.
