One of the goals of Supergrid Institute’s programme “Power electronics and converters” is to propose and study new power converters for high voltage direct current (HVDC) applications. These converters can be ac/dc or dc/dc or innovative solutions to embed energy storage inside the converter. To assess the interest of these converters, it is mandatory to compare them with state of the art converters. The comparison is done on key performance indicators (KPI) like the number of switches, their ratings, the losses… For this, previous works have been carried out to build a tool allowing to compute these KPI for different requirements. This tool is implemented in Matlab environment using object-oriented programming.
Objectives / Missions
The goal of this internship is to contribute to the development of this tool. The tasks will include the implementation of new models (include additional converters in the tool), the implementation of new KPIs (calculate additional indicators for the considered converters) or improvement of KPI calculations (develop more accurate or more computationally efficient models). It is then required that the candidate has a good knowledge of power converters, the capacity to understand the behavior of complex power converters, and programming skills as well.
Student in last year of engineering course or in a gap year. Good knowledge of electrical engineering, strong interest for power electronics. Good analytical mind and object-oriented programming skills. Knowledge of Matlab.
