Laboratory & Equipment description
The test bench is designed to perform the tests in back-to-back configuration which requires 2 converter prototypes.
The prototype can be supplied from a DC power source up to 7,5kV 100kW and 3 types of cooling are possible: 100kW water, 20kW forced air and 20kW natural convection. The electromagnetic shielding is ensured by a Faraday cage equipped with power supply filters and fiber optic controls. The converter and test bench control is realized using Matlab/Simulink CPU and FPGA code generation and Speedgoat real time target. The integrated safety interlock system is resilient to multiple faults.

The introduction of new concepts of high voltage and high power converter requires several validation steps that are mandatory before any product can be industrialized. In case of high power, high voltage power converters the following validation steps are usually performed before the industrialisation phase start:
real-time simulation including Hardware In the Loop testing (HIL)
small scale mock-up with Power Hardware In the Loop testing (PHIL)
prototype testing on a power test bench
demonstrator testing in the real environment
The power converter platform allows to validate different converter topologies ensuring the TRL5 and to extend the validation of converter components (power modules, capacitors, controls, cooling, …) up to the TRL6/7.
