General Context

SuperGrid Institute is developing a novel device, the fault current limiter. Based on superconducting materials, it reduces the intensity of fault currents and facilitates the fault clearance. For DC applications, the limiter is associated with a DC circuit breaker, the latter being constituted by an arrangement of several electrical components. The final device “limiter + DC breaker” is then included in a wider grid protection strategy, with several sources connected.

SuperGrid has developed a superconductive conductor with other international partners, characterization of this conductor in its final environment is necessary and is the object of the present offer. Especially, the focus will be on the setup of the measuring chain.

Objectives / Missions

  • Perform measurements with sufficient precision in order to quantifiy the non linear resistance of the superconducting conductor in cryogenic environment
  • Improve the measuring chains of current and voltage in order to match the precision requirements.
  • Automate the measurements in LABVIEW
