General Context

SuperGrid Institute is developing a system for remote temperature assessment of HVDC/HVAC power cables. The cable thermal model makes it possible to trace the temperature of the main conductor using the environment measured temperature. The conductor temperature is not accessible for measurement when the cable is energized. This internship subject consists of developing an application for calculating the temperature of the main conductor in steady state and transient conditions based on IEC standards.

Objectives / Missions

The intern mission is the development of an application for the calculation of temperatures in power cables in different environments (in the air, underground, submarine) and for different architecture of cables (single-phase, two-phase, three-phase).

The objectives of the internship are:

  • Identification of test cases to model in the application.
  • Development of the python code of the application.
  • Comparison of the analytical results with results obtained from numerical methods.
  • Writing the application documentation to facilitate maintenance.

Candidate Profile

  • Engineering/Master in computer science and numerical calculation
  • Deep knowledge of Python language
  • Interest in research and modeling activities
  • Autonomous and curious.
  • Good level of English
